Joycelyn Owens professionally known as “Joy Orleans,” is a New Orleans native that’s known globally for her soulful style and modern gospel voice. Throughout her career and years of musicianship, Joy has sung and performed with many great icons, including funk legend Dr. John, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and his Roadmasters. Her first single “Miracle of Love” is currently skyrocketing out of this world. No pun intended. Written by Grammy and Oscar-winning musician Donald Markowitz, best known for the Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes smash “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” from the film “Dirty Dancing”.
We had the good fortune of connecting with Joyce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
What’s the best part about being a musician?
The best part of being a musician is feeling free. Living on my own terms doing what I love.
If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
If I could personally work with any musician it would certainly be Beyoncé. I’m highly impressed with her work ethic, plus we truly have a lot in common. From being a mother and musician——We even have children that are the same age.
Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
My advice would be to live on purpose and work everyday to become a better musician. The sky’s just the view, it’s never the limit.
Are you working on any special projects or anything new?
Currently in production of another album. It’s a very exciting project! Check out my last album “I Am Joy Orleans” available on all streaming platforms.
